3-4.1 Class Standing
Students must have earned 40 hours of solid course credit to be
classified as a Sophomore; 95 hours to be classified as a Junior; 150
hours to be classified as a Senior in full standing.

3-4.2 Requirements for Graduation
A student must accumulate 240 credit hours in Grades 9 - 12 in order to
graduate from Nebraska City High School. In
addition to the total hour requirements, certain subject requirements
must be met as follows:
Mathematics 30 Hours

In addition to the hour requirement for graduation it is necessary for students to have a grade average of at least 1.
No part-time attendance will be permitted by students unless the
student is enrolled in a dual college/high school program and is
enrolled in at least two classes at the High School, is a fifth-year
student removing deficiencies, or has special permission from the
Administration and Guidance Offices.
Driver Education, sports, and speech activities carry partial or activity credit.
Students who are receiving academic assistance through the Special
Education program shall receive the Standard Diploma upon completion of
all general requirements for graduation as established by the Board of
Education.
These requirements are the same as the general requirements for all
students except they are adjusted to the individual’s academic ability
through the use of Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) set by individual instructors.

3-4.3 Class Ranking
Class ranking is determined by averaging semester grades for the years
of attendance in high school. Only academic work is considered.

3-4.4 Methods of Selection of Scholarship Winners
Students will be considered for scholarships based upon the specific
criteria that has been established for each particular
scholarship. If there is no criteria to award a scholarship, the
Nebraska City Public Schools will award the scholarship to the
top-ranking honor student who has the first choice of an available
scholarship award. If he / she is not interested in the
scholarship, students will be contacted in order of class rank to the
lowest limits of standards set forth in each individual scholarship
until someone is desirous of using it.

3-4.5 Acceptance of Promotion and/or Credit
Should a student wish promotion and/or credit for work completed
elsewhere, the school shall ascertain if the promotion and/or credit
was earned in an approved and/or accredited elementary or secondary
school or through an approved correspondence school before such
promotion and/or credit is accepted.
