1 -6.1 District Wellness Policy
Federal Public Law (PL 108.265 Section 204) states that by the first
day of the 2006 school year beginning after June 30, 2006 all schools
must develop a local wellness policy that involves parents, students,
a representative from the School Food Authority, school board,
school administrators and the public. The Local Education
Authority (LEA) will establish a plan for measuring the implementation
of the local wellness policy. Following the creation of the
policy, one or more persons must be designated to oversee the
implementation and the evaluation of the policy recommendations.
The Nebraska City Public Schools are committed to providing a school
environment that enhances learning and the development of lifelong
wellness practices.
To accomplish this policy:
I. Nutrition Education
- Child Nutrition Programs comply with federal, state and local
requirements. Child Nutrition Programs are accessible to all
children.
- Sequential and interdisciplinary nutrition education is provided
and promoted in Grades K-12 across the district. This same
nutrition education will be made available for parents.
II. Physical Activity
- Promotion of meaningful physical activity that students
canconnect to their personal growth and well-being outside of the
regular physical education classroom instruction.
III. Other School-Based Activities that Promote Student Wellness
- All food and beverages made available on campus during the school
day are consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans
and meet district safety guidelines.
- The school environment is safe, comfortable, pleasing and allows
ample time and space for eating meals.
