Course Description
Calculus provide advanced math students with the opportunity to experience a college level course in their senior year. The course introduces the basic calculus concepts of limits, derivatives, integrals, and the applications of those concepts. It is largely self-paced, with the students' motivation and understanding dictating the speed of the course. The main objective is to provide a solid foundation for success in college mathematics courses.
Course Competencies
Students will be able to:
-
find limits of functions using the definition and properties of a limit.
-
calculate derivatives of functions involving sums, products, quotients, composite functions, trig functions, and related rates.
-
solve real world problems involving rates of change.
-
approximate functions using linear approximation and Newton's Method.
-
evaluate functions based on their maximum/minimum values oand concavity.
-
find antiderivatives of functions by substitution.
-
find the area under a curve by integration of functions.
This course may be taken for college credit.
