Soybeans
On April 26, 2002, a Joy Ullstrom from the Soybean Board directed hands-on activities, "soybean Magnetism" for the K-4 students. Each student created their own soy product.
In the first session, the students listened to the story, Why the Brown Bean Was Blue, and became aware of the multiple food and non-food uses of soybeans. The soy product,Environ, was then presented to students. Using soy flour, salt, and water students created their own Environ dough. While the class worked on a soybean activity sheet, each student hs the opportunityu to make Environ cookie using an appropriate seasonal cookie cutter. suring this part of the presentation, students also had the opportunity to taste a product( soy chocolate covered candies) that contains soy ingredients.
During the second part, the baked cookies were returned to students with a magnet glued to the back of each cookie. Students painted their Environ magnet and when it was dry, they had their own soy product to take home.
A big "THANK YOU" to Mrs. Fraser, who met Joy during the NATS convention, for arranging her to come and colloaborate with students.
