Cell Phone Safety

| Cell
phones and the internet provide us with the opportunity to stay in contact with
family and friends. Many of us share photo and videos. Posting these on the web
or sending them via our phones are simple and easy ways to share this content. There
is also the probability that we may come in contact with people we don’t know. | More
and more of us are using wireless technology for computers and cell phones. Recently
our home internet went down. My son could still use his cell phone to check his
email, use google maps, and keep in touch with his friends through his social
network account. Mobile phones can be used to check email, surf the internet,
text messages, send pictures, and record small amounts of video. It seems that
wherever you go somebody is using wireless. Is all this safe?We
teach our children about “Strange Danger.” We need to continue those lessons
into our wireless world. The best way to protect your child is to supervise wireless
usage. Call your cell phone company and your internet provider and ask about
what parent controls are available. Here are some basic rules to go over with
your child: - Send appropriate text, email, or picture messages only
- Don’t give out personal information
- Don’t respond to messages from people you don’t know
- Tell an Adult your trust if you receive a message that makes you
uncomfortable or is from somebody you don’t know
- Be aware of your surroundings when texting and talking
