Searches
The internet in this twenty-first century is the top choice to search for
information while attempting to complete a research project. No longer are our
students going to the set of encyclopedias on the library shelves. The internet
contains a wealth of information that is easier to access.
Any number of search engines that can be used, and once you put in your
keywords you can get a million sites about your topic. I suggest using the
search engine called nettrekker http://www.nettrekker.com/.
This site is designed to be used for educational research. You can define your
search by grade level content resulting in less hits and more reliable
information. Setup an account and save your searches for school or home use. The school has also subscribed to some databases for students to use for
research. The library commission of Nebraska
provides the district with access to a statewide database called Nebraskacess.
HTRS has passwords that change twice a year or you can get them at home by
using your driver’s license. If you would like the password, contact Mrs. Kappel or Mrs. Withers. Here are the links for you to use at home. http://www.nlc.state.ne.us/nebraskaccess
and http://nlc.state.ne.us/nebraskaccess/logon.aspther
| Another database the HTRS has subscribed to and that many of the students in
the district have used at the Middle School is called EBCOhost. This database includes
a wide variety of resources including magazines, newspapers, and an
encyclopedia. Students can perform basic simple searches, advanced searches, or
even a visual search. This site requires a login and password. If you would
like more information contact Mrs. Kappel, Mrs. Dokken or Mrs. Withers. | |
