Can you imagine getting to learn about Mars? NASA has
launched several orbiters and robotic rovers in several missions to
Mars. What
an opportunity our students have today! The sixth grade students are
participating in an online science course with the JASON Foundation of
Education. JASON expeditions have
been taking students and teachers on expeditions to Hawaii
and volcanoes, the frozen regions, the ocean, and wetlands.
JASON is a supplementary science curriculum used by schools
developed by scientists and educators. The project integrates
technology with
standard-based hands-on and inquiry learning. Participants get to work
with leading national researchers. By using the
computers in the modular lab, students get to
participate in on-line activities with the JASON team of experts.
Students get
to participate in digital labs, have access to resources, expedition
galleries,
message boards that contain the assignment of the day, and chats with
experts.
Students get to view digital photographs sent back to earth by rovers.
They get an upclose view of the Martian landscape due to unmanned
robotic missions that have been sent to Mars. Soon we may be able to
answer the question that scientist everywhere have been asking since
1964. “
Is there life on mars?”
