Integrating Technology & Art

NETA logo: Grant 2001 - 2002

The Studio Basics project is a 2001 - 2002 NETA-funded grant project envisioned by Glena Withers and Lynn Connell of the Humboldt/Table Rock-Steinauer Unified School System. The project integrates art and technology with core curriculum areas. Using an inexpensive graphics tablet and software, elementary students can create original artwork to accompany their work and lessons.

The graphics tablets make it possible for students to use a stylus instead of a mouse. Clear tracing overlays allow students to trace pictures or letters. Each package includes child-friendly software program for drawing and animation. Students enjoy Disney Magic Artist, and rate it as a favorite software package due to animation and 3D effects. Students have the option of animating stamped pictures and scenes, to create slide show presentations complete with music.
