My name
is Deb Niss and it's my privilege to teach fourth grade at Pawnee
Public Schools.
I'm thrilled to be teaching, and
can truthfully say that I enjoy going to work every day! As far as I'm
concerned, fourth grade is the perfect grade level. The students are
still young enough to be excited about learning and coming to school
each day, but they're also old enough to understand instructions
and perform many tasks at a higher level of thought. I also love
teaching Nebraska history, which is done during the fourth grade year.
I've lived in the Pawnee City area
all my life, with the exception of the four years I attended the
University of Nebraska in Lincoln where I received my Bachelor's Degree
in Education. My husband, Randy, and I are the parents of three boys -
Derek, Bryce, and Kent. We enjoy following the activities of our
children and supporting the other students at PCHS, also. We're
grateful that we have had the opportunity to raise our children in this area.
Professionally, I am very involved with the assessment process for the
Nebraska State Standards. I've helped write both the Math and Language
Arts portfolios for our school. This year, for the first time, I'm
serving as the Standards and Assessment Coordinator for Pawnee Public
Schools. I'm also the chairman of our School
Improvement Committee.
Personally, I belong to the First United Presbyerian Church in Pawnee
City. I also belong to Chapter AV, P.E.O. Both of these
organizations have provided me with a strong sense of support and
encouragement in my life.
